@Musuko42, lol. Yorkshire, I'll give you that it`s not the south, but if you`re from Sheffield then I understand the hills. I can`t agree that all should be treated equal on the roads, after all not all on the road now are treated equal, HGV are limited etc. @MeGrendel yeah, come`on bike were not around during the Roman times, my point was road were built for other reasons too and that roads would be better than dirt tracks even without cars (I would have a guess that that track is ok for a Mtn bike.. On the point of insurance, I`ll agree on that front, but that doesn`t mean the law should be against you. Can we ban horses too?

Seriously...the bike lanes are there for a purpose. If there's an obstruction, you move out of the lane to avoid the obstruction, and back into the lane once the obstruction is cleared. Let`s see...how about I drive my car on the wrong side of the road just because sometimes there`s obstructions in my lane.
And again, this is a case of the police officers not being paid to interpret the law, they`re paid to enforce the law...hence why they`re called law ENFORCEMENT officers. If the law needs interpretation, seek legal counsel.
By paying for a fine, you`re automatically admitting guilt. You can`t admit guilt, then later change to not-guilty.

PS: I live in Yorkshire. Many hills! You have to be a special kind of hardcore to ride a bicycle here. I'm too much of a sappy weakling to do so.
Also I`m 14 miles from my place of work.
I have no issues with bicyclists, though. As a motorcyclist myself, I respect them and their risky position out on the roads.
I would respect them more, however, if they were licence-plated (accountable) and licenced (trained and tested) and insured (responsible).
