@hatface I take your point but Scotland is part of GB whereas Ireland (Éire) is not. It is not "under representation" to have a foreign country to claim your sporting heroes as their own, it's simply a lie. McGuigan was not from the six counties, he was from the Rep. of Ireland.


But he competed in the British championship and winning it made him the British champion in his weight range. Also, he didn`t show Irish flag or colours in the ring and he didn`t have the Irish national anthem played before a fight. So it`s not surprising many people thought he was from the UK, given that there was no sign he was from Eire and he was competing in the British championships. I`d assumed that he was British, given that he was the British champion.
