royalty are a waste of time and money. what do they do? why give them a dinner at the white house? how have they made anything better for anybody else, ever? they could at least look grateful for the luxury they receive for no reason.

so what was "wrong"? was he not suppose to give a speech? should he have waited until the end?
Already answered repeatedly, but I'll summarise here as it`s been asked again:
He unintentionally cued the playing of the national anthem, presumably because he wasn`t aware of that aspect of protocol - toasting the monarch is the *end*, not the beginning. So if you`re using the toast to make a speech, you *end* it with "to the queen" (or king).
So when he said that, it was taken as the end of the toast *because it always is*, that`s the custom. They started playing the national anthem, which he talked over. You shouldn`t talk over a national anthem - that`s the custom all over the place. Abruptly cutting off the toast would have been a bit off too, so he picked one of the two poor options he had left and went with it.
