Rather than do research to dig up real scientific evidence for themselves, they put their trust in questionable sources out of intellectual laziness or because it reinforces their preconceived notions about how the world works.

If something cures a cancer then they would charge out the nose for it, regardless of what it costs to make. They can't charge what they want because it`s not patentable - everybody can make it and the competition will find a prize that is reasonable. The cost on the other hand lies not in the manufacturing but in the studies. Whoever will fund the studies wouldn`t get that money back.
