Judging by some of your comments you've never been around tractors much. To get into the cab you have to step in front of the large rear tires on either side. One misjudged step or slip and splat, your name gets added to the story, just not in the way you wanted it.
News article says somebody started it up and put it in gear. I was hoping, since it was an enclosed cab it was locked. That would explain all the idiots who just watched it do all that damage. Nope, not locked....they were just scared to stop it.

If I were to guess what happened, the tractor has an auto start, a common feature in Northern latitudes, and was left in gear. This happened in Alaska to a friend of mine, they parked the truck and the Autostart came on every two hours, by the time they arrived in the morning, the truck had plowed through the garage and into an office nearby.
