@GreenBatman- Guess what, none of the employees are happy about doing that, either. Unfortunately, that's the liquidation company`s rule, and unless we want to be out of a job sooner we have to do it. If a small line through the barcode on the back of a book isn`t worth the enormously high markoffs that Borders places on the liquidated books, then go to a Borders that isn`t closing or Barnes and Noble and buy the book full-priced so they won`t make a line through your precious barcode. Simple fix.

I went to a Borders recently and found that they were putting black marks on the bar codes of the books they sell during their close-out sale. I'm not buying a book just to have the cover ruined because they`re paranoid about returns. They won`t be getting any of my money so long as they do that. I`d rather go to Amazon.

@Djer - E-readers you can read right away and not pay shipping. For what i buy online the shipping cost is outweighed by the fact that i don't pay tax (they`re usually in another state). Plus there is no line when buying online.
