But if you'd pronounce LOL like "loll", then it`d be an acronym, did I understand you correctly? I just want to be sure I haven`t been correcting people wrongly.

I correct people all the time. I`m in the Air Force, we have a LOT of "acronyms". I often correct people and explain that an acronym is a word we use, like Laser or Scuba or even NORAD (who I work for), where every letter means something, as opposed to an initialism, which is not a word, it`s a bunch of letters, like CEO.

It`s not a peeve, and I`m not anal about it, but I do like teaching people simple useless bits of info.
