I'm a tall guy (6foot6) and I simply request seating next to the emergency exits. If none is available, they usually switch me, since they realize my height is a problem.
The major difference between height and width is, height is not a choice. Being fat is. You chose to live unhealthily, that`s your birthright, but choices have consequences. In the case of flying, the consequence is a higher fair to compensate for your girth.
It`s the same way that if I`m palced next to someone who rivals smaller species of whales in size, I immediately contact a flight attendant. As I`ve beent aught by my father, who travels the equivalent to around 10 times around the world every year, on varying airlines. Complain and you will get reseated in 90% of the cases. The last ten, you get compensation (my trans-Atlantic flight from France to the US last year was refunded entirely after I made a complaint- first as I was seated and again on landing).

I think they should be forced to expand the seating space to fit the few extra-tall people in the world, which will in turn reduce total number of seats on the plane, which will in turn raise the price of tickets for everybody!!
Or maybe they shouldn't have been cheap-asses and made the smallest seating space out of any airline in the first place.

Spirit Airlines =/= the world. Don`t be so dramatic.
