It would be great if the just flat out said he supported it, and if he would flat out be the "fierce advocate" of gay rights he said he was, but the fact is, this country is 50-50 when it comes to gay acceptance. Literally. Look at the polls, the gay marriage ballots, studies on what people think when it comes to homosexuality being acceptable. It's basically split down the middle, with a SLIGHT edge to the pro-gay side. Until that edge become more than a small one, and until that edge is strong and not wavering support, he`s not going to risk going all out for gay rights. We see that conservatives essentially are doing anything and everything to eliminate any gay accepting thing in the US, and Obama would be right on their radar. It`s sad, but it`s the country we live in.

Obama is for same-sex marriage and is essentially playing this game of non-commitment so as to appear as middle-of-the-road as possible. It's all politics people.
