@Volsunga Read the posts, the CBSC is not a government agency, but a council made up of private broadcasters in Canada. They are the ones that asked that member stations edit the song. So it could air, as is on the public broadcaster, CBC.

Man, this is like my favorite oldies song. Not because of the faggot reference -though I still sI am a racist! a tad when I hear them say it- but because I think the opening guitar solo is one of the best ever. Right up there with Crazy Train.

The band Dire Straits is anything but bigoted. The whole song was sarcasm aimed at people that think making it big as a band is easy.
Unfortunately most people didn't get the gist of the song. The repetitive line "I want my MTV" is why it became so popular.
