Give each family a 0.25 acre lot, add another 20% for roads etc. and assume an average family size of 4. You would need ~820,000 square miles of land. That's about the same as Texas (~269,000) and Alaska (~663,000) put together. Not sure if I have a point but an interesting calculation to me.
