Well all people aren't like that. And we`ve come a long way in technology. I don`t know, I just wouldn`t lose hope because there`s no point in being sour for the rest of your life.

The problem is there is no normative goals given or explained. He says we squandered gifts but in what way, ie. by what perspective? If the ultimate goal of people is to maximize their own total utility we have done fine and if it is to maximize society's we do ok but are lacking. What greater affair is he referring to? You must give parameters to make such statements. Does he simply want advancement in arts and sciences- well not everyone is an artist or a scientist though I personally find that more of my region of exploration.
