We were too busy not caring about it.
Now, in general. all those people saying or thinking "those crazy spaniards..." probably offended some people on that pic. You know, it was barcelona, so they consider themselves catalonians, not spaniards, and are mostly offended by being called spaniards. Silly catalonians.
And yes, while there was some protest, even 1 TV channel outright insulting a nation's leader (the Pope`s the Vatican leader, after all), most people was just happy the Pope was here in Spain.
Keep in mind that, even while Spain is technically aconfesional (no official religion), 80 % of it is deeply chatolic.
Also, some insider info you wouldn`t know if you`re not from Spain. This was a protest organized by our liberal party, which happens to be the one leading us right now.

"The biggest issue here is that the pope requires the country he is visiting to pay money for him to visit which i don't think should every be done." Actually, it was the Vatican who paid for this visit, not Spain.
"People in SPAIN are protesting the Pope? What is the world coming to?!" No, most people were delighted the Pope was visiting us. Some a$sholes, however... I mean, our right wing TV channel had a 25 % share during the visit, even.
"the old catholic church even ordains LGBT people, it`s true, look for the Union of Utrecht" False, outdated. Since last year, the Old Catholic Church does ordains gay priests, as long as they are virgin, and plan on keeping it that way.
