Dang it - was happy being a lurker and resisted signing up for months until I saw this...
Yeah, a good marriage does take lots of effort - that's why they are good. See, a marriage is kind of like a house. If you don`t do the dishes, mop, clean the fridge, replace the light bulbs, pay the utilities, and so on and so forth... well, your house will just turn to s---... kinda like a marriage.
Then again, this assumes you don`t marry someone you can`t stand. That happens a lot because people think `oh, they will change once we are married`.
@Gerry1of1 - my wife and I are of a slightly different ilk. We think you should apply for a marriage license and then if you are still together after 2 years, then you are married. In other words, no marriage benefits right away and freedom to split without penalty beforehand.
