It's simple Dave. While their products are occasionally neat, the company has an unfortunate reputation for developing a fan base which would now quite literally kill for their products. Also, just about every underhanded technique has been employed by them at some point, carefully planned obsolescence, staggering of advancements, deceptive bundling, misleading claims (i.e. see recent right-hand reception), and the ridiculous prices.

Not to say ALL Apple products are terrible (I have an iPod), just that the company is too open about its screwing with people who are too addicted to the products to care/notice. Hope that helped a bit!
