They just gave preliminary approval to this and will be posting the changes on the Texas Education Agency's website in mid-april.

He most certainly was not an Atheist. From his own autobiography:
"...Sunday being my studying day, I never was without some religious principles. I never doubted, for instance, the existence of the Deity; that He made the world, and governed it by His providence; that the most acceptable service of God was the doing good to man; that our souls are immortal; and that all crime will be punished, and virtue rewarded, either here or hereafter."
You can certainly argue he was a Diest, and make a tough arguement that he wasn't a Christian, but he always was a believer in some type of god.
The left and the right trying to co-opt the founders is getting ridiculous.
