Just talked to her, turns out she's not punjabi, she`s Fiji-Indian so it`s different. Apparently `Singh` is really common for Fijindians, both male and female. Thanks for the info, always good to learn more about other people`s culture.

Ya, many Sikh immigrants to new countries often drop their surnames and keep the middle name as the new surname. Ask her what her real last name is. Or better yet, just ask her what area her family is from in Punjab. Chances are pretty good that is the same as her last name.

"She can't be a Singh. Singh is the common middle name for men of the Sikh faith. It comes from the Sanskriti word, Simha, which means `lion`. Females use Kaur."
