Depends mainly on how it's forged. Iron in the form of castings or forgings can be brittle. Iron forms a metallic crystal structure when changing phase from liquid to solid, and the crystal structure can be subject to brittle failure. If the load or force on something that is cast iron is great enough and applied in the right (wrong) way, it will fail due to this brittle fracture.
