I think it was a mistake telling a newspaper, because now people who read - and thus have more money - will recognise him and walk straight by with their chin up.
Still, if you could make up to AU$400 a day (or your country's equivalent) from sitting around, wouldn`t you? Perhaps if you had something to do like playing a guitar or something, otherwise it would grow tedious.

Oh wow, some FAT LAZY BUM says he makes 50k a year off the streets! Seems plausible, TOTALLY believable! Especially considering he is no doubt seen everyday lazing about the sidewalk like jabba the hut! I can realistically see this is absolutely the truth!
