"Spelled and spelt are both correct, the latter being chiefly British. Leaped and leapt are also both acceptable. Periods, commas, question marks, and exclaimation points go inside the quotes; colons, semi-colons, and dashes go outside. I don't, as a rule, correct other people`s grammar, spelling, or punctuation unless they attempt to correct someone else and get it wrong. I used to be a technical writer-editor at one of the world`s top scientific laboratories, which means I know how to look this stuff up before I make a fool of myself. That doesn`t mean I never make mistakes myself. "
