The CGI for the new Star Trek was done by Industrial Light and Magic. How can it be a ripoff if it's the same folks doing both films?

It's called the Hero`s Journey. Look it up. It`s been employed for, oh, about 1.5 million years now, as a method of story telling.

Err, actually- No. The new Trek film depicts an alternate universe (or timeline rather) than the one shown in the series as Vulcan is destroyed and a bunch of people who were dead are alive and those who were alive are dead (IE Kirk`s dad) so it`s not really a prequel per-say..
and as for the video, I dunno- I`ve found that all great epic tales (Star Wars, Harry Potter, LOTR, and now Star Trek even) follow the same writing scheme.
Ah well, I really don`t give a crap as I enjoy them regardless. Where as LOTR had an epic fantasy tale, Star Trek had black holes, shiny space ships, and imploding planets.
