"They did a study with driving simulators that showed that some people actually speed up unconsciously when there was fog. The hypothesis was that with heavy fog, you don't very many visual cues for speed (since you can`t really see things passing by your car very well), so you don`t really notice how fast you are going. I mostly hear of them happening in the south where it is really flat, humid, and foggy, but a quick google search for "massive car pileup fog" shows 100-200+ car crashes in California, Wisconsin, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, etc., etc.)"
