lets get one thing clear. these cameras are not here to stop speeders and red light runners. Its made to generate more money for the "state". You can find out more info here. The major problem with these speed cameras is that I never see them work correctly or force traffic to get cluttered on the highways and freeways. The cameras are there for money and nothing more.

I thought these cameras only take a picture when a car is going through a red light.... like when an actual offense is being committed.

Meach, you still get served by the state. If I were to get one of those, it would read the State of Arizona (plaintiff) vs DeltaUMarcus (Defendant). The automated system is just letting the state know that they're taking you to court. Though I do agree that the states shouldn`t be using that to make monies. Why not have tourism? Oh...wait...
