Actually, Pindragon, that's not such a new phenomenon as you describe it. If you take a look at how families were structured even centuries ago, you will see that your argument even fits then. Education (if there was any) was a lot more violent than even prior to WWI. It`s not just then and how families worked at that time.
Mankind has always been unnecessarily cruel and sought violence as the prime problem-solver. Of course you`re right, I just wanted to point out that it`s not just the last three or four generations, but a lot more.

Unfortunately... the exceptions are few, and fall by the hundreds to the idiotic cruel majority of the lost causes.
The media we see and the world we live in, racism, sexism, emperialism, doesn't help much either...

*shakes head*
Observe the fall of man.
I have a theory as to why people seem to be getting more and more cruel that deals with this very matter:
Around WWI and maybe a touch beforehand, Parents were strict. They believed in hard work, loyalty, hoonor, but to an extreme. Children where practically living in boot camp at the home. So they grew up and decided that their children should have the same values, but not be so harsh with it, so they eased off and taught morality AND free will.
The next generation viewed them, selfishly, as tyrants. Their grandparents (The first culprits) became old and kind to their grandkids, to weak to be hardasses. So those children grew up to be rebellious: The 70's. Lawless children thought their hard ass parents were the devil and decided that THEIR kids should live as they WANTED to. Enter our generation... For the most part, we view authority as irrational idiocy and live like savages.
