The pickle ornament on the Christmas tree is an urban legend that has grown into a tradition for some. Rumour initially attributed this tradition to Germany, but there is no evidence to support those roots.
But who cares, it's fun - my family has done it for the last few years.

"How does finding pickles make more commercialization?"
Quite simple, my opie friend, selling pickle ornaments, to carry on German "tradition." It's not that I dislike it. I mean gee, my family does it as well, slightly modified though. It`s just the made up origin that`s really irritating.

When I was younger I almost got my best friend's family a pickle ornament. The catalog I saw it in, claimed it was a German tradition and his Mom was from Germany. I decided against it, but I asked him about it anyway and He said he had never heard of it. He asked his mom, she`d never heard of it, and so on. Bogus glass pickles, German tradition my butt.
I still wonder about the whole pepermint pig thing... probably fake too.
