I am sorry, but no. First of all, as long as the ball doesn`t touch the ground and you are inbounds, you can gain control at any time (even if you are on your back). Secondly, you are right, the receiver was not in the end zone WHEN HE WAS HIT. However, he also did not have control of the ball at that time either. When the receiver was laid out, it propelled him into the end zone onto his back. When the ball came back to him and he, along with the defenders, caught the ball, he was clearly in the end zone. In such cases of possession of a catch by both teams, the catch is deferred to the offence on the field. Therefore, the referee makes the correct call when he signals the touchdown.
