As a fireworks enthusiast I could tell some weren't real and understood why they were faked. If a burst is symmetrical then there is no need to fake it since it will look the same from every angle. However, in the case of specific patterns; it is impossible to know the precise flight path, or the direction the shells will face when they burst, they have to be faked if you want them to look right. Personally even though I was a little dissapointment seeing some were faked, there is no big deal as the ceremonies were absolutely amazing! Besides, how much is faked in western movies these days that nobody cares about.
