"what the heel is the point"
there isn't one, there really isn`t. my brother inlaw works for festo. they make and program those machines in factorys, like the ones that make cars and the ones that take over the jobs people used to do. one of the manageing directors just likes to make robot sea creatures, to kind of show where the future of robotics is going. they have a big tank of robotic jelly fish as well, their better then this. they have all sorts of crazy robots things about the main headquarters.
