Yankee, your statement proves your ignorance so profoundly, that I am embarrassed for you. I'm not sure what you mean by the 2A being a "crutch" for gun owners. It was written so the citizens of the US would never be subjects to a foreign crown OR any other force that may arise. I know you see no need for this right, but some day perhaps you will understand. I am not sure why you mentioned semi autos, but I suspect it was in reference to the weapons around when the 2A was written. The signers intended the citizens to have weapons on par with the military so they would never be oppressed by the government. Back when the Constitution was written, muzzleloaders WERE assault weapons. Your statement about not owning a gun, or knowing anyone who does, automatically disadvantages you in this conversation. You have forfeited your second amendment rights, but don`t tell me I have no need of them. Take a gun safety class, get some range time, and then come talk to me about the 2A

However, if we give up that basic idea of resisting oppression, this whole country will be reduced to a peasant state under the auspices of a government that is unchallengeable, and we will be at it's mercy if the leaders turn out like Stalin, Hitler, or Mao. No thanks. I`d rather die fighting than die in a concentration camp for speaking out.

And yes, most Americans DO own guns. http://www.reason.com/news/show/28021.ht... Take children and convicted felons out of the equation, and at least half do. It's extremely common, and because you don`t know anyone who owns one means nothing. A lot of people have guns in their home and don`t respond to surveys because they don`t want to have them confiscated, like they were in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Oh that`s right, we have nothing to fear from our government. They`d never try to disarm the populace. Except they did. Go on youtube and google new orleans confiscation. Sadly, that was the worst situation, because most of the people there were in no position to resist the government troops taking their weapons. A lot of Americans couldn`t do it either. However, if we give up that basic idea of resisting oppression, this whole country will be reduced to a peasant state under the auspices of a govern
