Ehm, I didn`t see any calculations? If anything it`d be more accurate to say estimation, as he did not calculate any numbers using geometry.
In fact, I doubt this had much of anything to do with geometry, as a cylinder`s circumference is not necessarily always a greater distance in units than the heighth of the cylinder and vice versa, which is the point they seemed to want to make. If anything, this trick was based solely off an optical illusion.
