Survivability is determined by how well adapted a creature is to its environment and not how bigger\stronger\more aggressive it is than the other organisms with which it happens to coexist.

They lose control of their emotions. Evolutionally, it is beneficial to be agressive. If your stronger and more cunning than others, you survive. Thats why males are generally more aggressive. It has nothing to do with brainpower, it has to do with the fact that the more assertive you are, the more successful you are in life. Steroids, on the other hand, take it to a different level.
