http://www.lasiksucks4u.com has studies posted related to refractive surgery, most of them since 2004. If LASIK or any other refractive surgery is what you're looking for, you might want to read them. If you have any doubt or are hesitant, then a 2nd or even 3rd opinion would be recommended. Dry eye issues are becomming more frequent, and right now, most drops and steroids are not that effective. Do your homework first...it might work in most people, but is it really worth the risk?

Just to clear a few up regarding my situation...
Most LASIK casualties are not properly informed of ALL of the risks, and to this day are still not. I was not a candidate for LASIK, even though the doctors stated many times that I was. Yes, the laser was investigational and not approved by the FDA, but clinical trials are how they become approved. When you have doctors that work outside the scope of those trials, and violate standards, protocols, and federal regulations, that is where the problems come from. There are many doctors who do not abide by the rules, and are doing this procedure "for the love of money". Yes, it was elective, and it was my choice...but it was all based on lies. There are many other casualties saying the same. It's not that I`m against LASIK, I`m just trying to help others avoid the same.

The FTC's site is a bit more balanced. They don`t downplay the risks, and even recommend not getting the surgery if you are unsure about it. Some LASIK alternatives are listed near the end. If you are fine with glasses or contacts, don`t even consider the surgery.

Yeah it may not work. Nothing is foolproof, nothing is 100% safe. It IS surgery. Duh. I do feel for the guy, but if he didn't know the risks involved, he`s an idiot. Don`t just trust one doctor. Do research and be at least a little educated. Ask questions and don`t do it if you aren`t ok with the answers.
