This isn't new science. Too much and too little of anythig can hurt you. In general, I think America has way more sugar and other things packed into the foods at supermarkets (excluding fresh produce but some may argue...). It may not only be the pop that is giving us diabeties but other prepackaged foods with extra sugar and additives. For example, Spaghetti sauce used to have very little sugar in it. Just natural sugars, it was a chiefs trick to add sugar to it. Now nearly all spaghetti sauces have added sugar so people will like the taste and buy it.
