I was a Marine for 4 years ACTIVE duty (infantry). "Oorah" is something we said in boot camp and Wikipedia is very accurate about its origin. However, after bootcamp and upon entering the fleet, no one really said unless in the presence of officers, SNCOs or other brainwashed and frighteningly motivated characters.
To say "oorah" as a "salt," an NCO who has been in for a few years, is highly characteristic of a "boot," someone just out of boot camp.
