I have a Maltese that does this. She is the oldest of my dogs, and I have to take her everywhere I go. (if I can) if I have to leave her behind when I go to the city for a few days, she pines and wont even eat. she is completely obsessed. Follows me EVERYWHERE. It's a pain in the ass- but damn, I love her for it!

Actually, this was almost certainly congenital myotonia. Dogs, goats, humans, and a few other species are known to have mutations where, in situations of extreme excitement or surprise, they can lose motor control and even fall unconscious. This is especially common in miniature Schnauzers, which this particular dog is.
Just go take a look at some of the "fainting goats" videos if you want to see more of this disease.
