Nice Gerry. I'm with you LJ. The biggest creatures on our planet are also the gentlest. People only get injured out of accident. I have a rock shelf I sit on whilst watching the break, and it deep enough that the humpbacks will come right up, within 2 or 3 metres, and sit there and look at you. Sometimes a wave hello gets a fin wave back.

it's possible the whale mistook the kayak for a struggling infant, some species of whale often hold offspring near the surface to help them breathe
