Trump Administration Transferred $9.8 Million From FEMA To ICE

Submitted by: fancylad 1 week ago in News & Politics

This is some organized crime-level shit.

In related news, Trump says "3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico." He thinks Democrats (he never gets into specific Democrats) padded the numbers to make him look bad. According to CNN, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Republican Florida Governor Rick Scott both publicly disagreed with Trump.

Several comments below make the point that, since the FEMA budget is about 14 billion, this 10 million doesn't matter. But ICE has a budget of about 8 billion, and the transfer authorization claimed that the additional 10 million is critical to its operation. If that is true, and it is the legal justification cited, then the 10 million could be critical to FEMA as well. That is the claim being made by this posted video. Any one with evidence that the claim is untrue could cite that evidence.

semichisam01 Then how about: previous administrations did this all the time and it wasn't "earth-shattering NEWS' before?
How about the MSM has been lying about Trump's FEMA as if Trump had any control over what they do? Just like they lied about Bush's FEMA... but never Obama's...

0.007% of the budget is "critical" now? It did NOT come from rescue relief or such things, it came from travel and office expenses... a trivial amount that will quickly be replaced. Not one FEMA agent would even notice it!

gohikineko "0.007% of the budget is "critical" now?"
I am not making a case for or against the transfer. ICE is saying that they cannot do their job without this 0.00125% addition to their own budget.

semichisam01 It was a temporary transfer, ICE isn't the issue, the claim is that Trump killed people by damaging FEMA: that is absolute rubbish.

Just like the Puerto Rico 'death toll' numbers: manufactured for political purposes:

I am sure this was just a little budget shuffling as one department had additional budget pressures doing something under the purview of another.

However.... the big picture building up is an administration whose guiding principles are white supremacy, national exceptionalism, pro-military/industry and that demands complete obedience to the leader.

According to Trevor Noah, Trump would have won the hurricane, if you deducted the people who died illegally.

After many years of research on your nation i've come to the conclusion that there is indeed a shadow government ruling your nation.  John F. Kennedy spoke about it almost 1/2 a century ago too.

They are doing their best to make this man look bad, and a lot of people who buy into the delusion are lapping it up.

Food for thought.

monkwarrior Yes, there is a shadow government, as there is in most, if not all, countries. It's just not as conspiratorially orgasnised as you theorise. The shadow government consists of ngo's, companies, political influencers and opioniated people such as yourself. They work indenpendently pushing their individual agendas more or less successfully. This is sometimes percieved as if someone powerfull is working behind the scene pullings strings, especially by people, who try to find simple patterns in complex scenarios and simple answers to complex questions, such as you.

FAMAs budget is 13.9 Billion dollars. I think a small loan to ICE, of let's just call it 10 million dollars is a small amount of their total.
And when you consider that sense the holding of children at the border and the catch and quick release of "family units" (forced on us by the libs and the bleeding hearts) the border has seen a large increase in the number of people trying to get across the border (illegally) with children, if this is not a humanitarian emergency that needs aid, what is.
And if this is against the law then he needs to be prosecuted.
What!!! no one is saying its illegal? What!!! everyone is saying that the transfer of money between departments has never been done before?
This type of thing has probably done on a regular basis, but when Trump does it OH MY GOD he's taking all the money To make himself The KING.

What is the point of a budget if this crook will transfer money however he wants?

daegog What is the point of a budget if this crook will transfer money however he wants?

This is within the budget. And the transfers are allowed by Congress.

A few facts:
  • Funds were transferred by DHS from various agencies to cover immigrant detention and deportation. (over $200 million from various agencies)
  • While $10 Million did come from FEMA, it did not come from the agency’s Disaster Relief Fund. It came from employee travel expenses, training, basic purchase cards, office supplies, HQ overhead support.
  • This is nothing new:  Congress allows the DHS to shift some money around, as long as certain requirements are met and as long as Congress gets notified.

Of course, this could be solved if Congress would fund ICE as it should, instead basing it on too few immigrants.  Of course, THEN no one could become self-righteous about it.

dm2754 They were solid statistical models/ projections, but it wasn't like they had death certificates.  From what I could tell, the estimate of the number of deaths was based on the difference between what they projected the census to be (accounting for a wide variety of factors) and what the census actually was.  I'm more of a qualitative analysis guy, though, so my interpretation of their methods may be off.

dm2754 The original count was for people who were literally killed from Hurricane related injuries, it didn't include people who died because they couldn't access medicine, medical equipment or  succumbed illness or injuries they typically would have survived could they have gone to a hospital, and if they did manage to get to a hospital it might not have had power.

So no maybe 3000 people didn't die because it was windy and wet but a lot more than 6 people died as a result of the damage done by the hurricane, this needing to be explained is the funny part not the math. People died so democrats could make me look bad that's funny politics.

mischeif954 All true. I'd bet the number was somewhere between the 18 and 3000 that are being touted. Of course each side will highlight their number in an effort to push their goals.

Either way I don't believe either number, and take anything either side says with a large pinch of salt.

mischeif954 they're attempting to make the numbers as large as possible. The larger death toll that more sympathy and money you get.
Now I can agree with cause and effect but secondary that are almost never counted.
Did we count how many Russians died in early death 10yrs later because of poor nutrition they experience during the 10 years of war no we don't
True this has nothing to do with Trump.
