This is common sense, but something that got lost in the drone of the increasing western media delusions over the last few decades.

This is fantastic. At school we were (told) during in-service by our administrators that we would all be participating in 'Mindset Mondays'. Each Monday kids would be pulled from the last 30 min of morning class to have round table discussions of inspirational quotes and such from our counselors. There's also a 'temperature check' which is kind of discreet online survey where students answer some basic questions about their well-being, i.e. how are you feeling today from 1-5, what is stressing you out, what about your day is exciting or are you looking forward to, etc.

Needless to say most of our 8th graders, as well as myself, bring a skeptical if not curmudgeonly attitude about this whole sharing your feelings thing. It's no big secret that our district has hired an additional support counselor for every campus and these kinds of programs are being put in place as a direct response to school shootings, the last of which happened only 20 miles from here.

I basically told them during today's session that we were going to make the best of it, it could give us a chance to bond in a non-study hall environment (are you doing your work? get to work! put the phone away), and I pointed out that self reflection and introspection is healthy whether you are thirteen or in your forties. I plan on starting next Monday by sharing this tweet. It could be a very good springboard into talking about making friends in intermediate school, and reaching out to those that are different than us.

melcervini Russell Howard is hugely popular in the UK. 9 seasons of his show 'Good news week' always ended with a 'not all doom and gloom' story....this is just one of them.

I've been trying to find a compilation of these segments; if I do, I'll post that. If not, I'll post individual ones.

Glad you and insaneai liked it.

Maybe he wants you to put on lipstick and bells and dance a traditional dance back at his digs?
