Economist Peter Navarro Says There's A Special Place In Hell For PM Justin Trudeau

Submitted by: lockner01 1 month ago in News & Politics

Trump has imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum onto one of it's largest trading partners and it's strongest ally, Canada, under the guise of national security. Canada has responded by imposing dollar for dollar tariffs on select products. Trump left the G7 early and started on a Twitter tirade about Trudeau. Peter Navarro stated that there was a special place in hell for Trudeau.

Some of the products Canada is placing tariffs onto:

  • Yogourt
  • Coffee, roasted: Not decaffeinated
  • Prepared meals: Of spent fowl; Specially defined mixtures
  • Other: Specially defined mixtures, other than in cans or glass jars; Spent fowl other than in cans or glass jars
  • Prepared meals, of bovine
  • Other prepared or preserved meat of bovine, other than in cans or glass jars
  • Maple sugar and maple syrup
  • Liquorice candy; Toffee
  • Other sugar confectionery (including white chocolate), not containing cocoa.
  • Other chocolate, in blocks, slabs or bars: Filled
  • Other chocolate, in blocks, slabs or bars: Not filled
  • Pizza and quiche
  • Cucumbers and gherkins
  • Strawberry jam
  • Soya sauce
  • Tomato ketchup and other tomato sauces
  • Prepared mustard
  • Mayonnaise, salad dressing, mixed condiments and mixed seasonings, other sauces
  • Soups and broths and preparations therefor
  • Waters, including mineral waters and aerated waters, containing added sugar or other sweetening matter or flavoured

Does anyone win in a trade war?

zeegrr The nation was ruined when the people became weak and refused to take charge as their forefathers entrusted into them.  There's still hope, but it's no longer the land of brave and free, but fearful and slaved.

daegog Maybe he knows something you don't.  There's valid reasons to make a statement that there is a national security threat in canada.

monkwarrior Let me get this clear; you are surely not saying that a military attack by Canada on the US is a valid concern?

LordJim it's not too difficult to figure that out on your own.  Nation next to target nation is more accepting and forgiving than target nation.

Trudeau demands that anyone who offend or degrades women should step down from office.

Recently he himself has been guilty of this. So if he doesn't step down he is a hypocrite.

"The U.S. goods and services trade surplus with Canada was $8.4 billion in 2017." Link. That is a surplus not a deficit. Trump purposely removed services to manipulate the numbers. I don't know why the hell he is fighting with our allies. It's almost like he is helping Putin to obtain his decade's long goal of dividing the US from it's strongest allies.

What most people don't understand how Surplus and deficit affects relationship.
If we have a surplus they need us more than we need them.
If we have a deficit it means we have needs from them.

If someone needs something from you they need to kiss your ass if you need something from them then you kiss theirs.

markust The one thing it's done is unify Canadian Parliament and the people politically. I don't support Trudeau but I stand behind him.  My FaceBook feed this morning was filled with people posting " If it says 'Made in USA' don't buy it".

lockner01 Let me know if there is anything made in the USA worth having. Last American thing I bought was a Bic lighter....and it didn't work. I live in West Virginia and the only thing I buy American is food. And I get that at Walmart, so it might be American. I don't avoid American goods, I just don't see any.

The US seems to be on the wrong end of very large trade deficits with all of its trading partners. How is that good for the US?

trimble in a free market world, you rebalance the trade through being more competitive or pivoting to where you can be more competitive.

Draculya You also add tariffs to goods subsidized by the foreign government to even the scales again.  This is simple in theory but rather complex in application.

It's neither mystifying nor inexplicable that Trump would give Russia unilateral concessions while alienating Russia's enemies. They helped put him in power and they are holding (at least) economic threats over him personally. His party needs to grow some balls and bring him in line.

Draculya Russia must have some amazing dirt on him, because once he became prez, what leverage could they have over him? He's got everything.

I've heard multiple Republicans say the words bad faith and back stabbing. When did Trudeau say he consented to all tariffs and would never retaliate?

"There's a special place in Hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump."

Apparently, Trump has absolute control over everyone's future position in Hell. What specific entity would be able to exercise that particular power?

Navarro is an economist. This throws into doubt GB Shaw's line,  “If all economists were laid end to end, they still would not reach a conclusion.”
