Could Humans Live On Mars?

Submitted by: trimble 4 months ago in News & Politics Science

An excerpt from USA Today: Humans will "absolutely" be on Mars in the future, NASA chief scientist Jim Green told USA TODAY. And the first person to go is likely living today, he said.

After the "building blocks of life" were discovered on the Red Planet, life on Mars and living on Mars seems to be less like a scene from the movie The Martian and more like a reality.

"Now, we see Mars is an even better location for having past life," Green said. "It’s just getting better and better."

Mars is more Earth-like than any other planet in the solar system, making it an attractive second option for the human race. There's also a natural beauty on the planet: a grand canyon that measures nearly the entire width of the U.S. and a volcano the size of Arizona.

The planet could offer humans a "brand new life with brand new vistas," Green said.  The plan is to send someone to the planet by 2040. But that's dependent on quite a few factors.

dm2754 Folks seem to live quite well, spending the vast majority of their time inside or in vehicles.

oh so the 'authority' says 'absolutely' when we can't even get to the moon to build a moon base.

monkwarrior    Sometimes you do sound like a broken record. Where is your optimism? Do you completely lack enthusiasm?

Gerry1of1 been waiting for them to return to the moon (assuming they went there in the first place) my whole life, all we get is questionable ISS videos which raise even more suspicion, 3d animations, and speculation.  It's like one big fat lie, on a stick, dangled in front of everyone.

monkwarrior    Ah, waiting is such a bore.  How many people have waiting how long for the return of Jesus?   sigh.

Sorry, that was shameless trolling .  Sometimes I can't help myself.

Gerry1of1 people can find and study his lessons every day and learn something to better themselves.  all people can do regarding a supposed moon landing is wonder why there's so many inconsistencies with the evidence, and the frustration of possible lies.

monkwarrior " wonder why there's so many inconsistencies with the evidence, and the frustration of possible lies. "     just like christianity.

I bet if we had stayed people like you would be bitching about how
we waste money maintaining a base on a lifeless rock.

Gerry1of1 Unfortunately there's consistent evidence and little frustration along with no lies in Christianity.  Christ is the truth, and i understand that people who don't know Him would think that though.

Also i wouldn't be complaining if we had a moon base.

monkwarrior   If we had a moon base I suspect you would deny it and claim they were in Arizona.

But you are right about the continuity of evidence of christianity.
The evidence is consistently zero.

Gerry1of1 If i could look up and see the lights of a moon base i would probably say "oh look, see those lights, that means we have a moon base".

As for Christianity, there is evidence of testimony that you want to ignore, and that's your choice.

monkwarrior "evidence of testimony"

A record of someone talking about a god is not evidence their are gods.

Gerry1of1 The evidence contains procedures that you can follow to see the empirical evidence of God.  It's really up to you if you want to exercise your senses of observation (including spiritual) to the fullest or not.

monkwarrior    I can't say how deep your religious experience is and you can't mine. It's like religion, you just have to take the person's word for it without proof.

I wonder how they will overcome the lack of a major global magnetic field. Mars doesn't have one
and that's what Earth has to deflect solar radiations harmful to life.

LordJim "Still a one-way trip though, eh?"
Very likely. Still, the first people on this continent took a one-way trip from Asia. Many of us in the US today are descended from people who took a one-way trip from Europe, or some other place that was difficult, expensive and time-consuming to go to or from.

semichisam01 True, but to a place teaming with resources. Besides, it wasn't really a one-way trip from Europe, people went back and forth all the time from Columbus on.

Your point stands BUT...………….
F.Y.I.
The archeological evidence supports the trips started about 45,000 years before Columbus.  New discoveries are being made all the time but what I reference comes from a cave near the Gulf of Mexico that is now underwater.  ( I think this one was covered by "First Peoples" available on amazon prime)

Draculya  I seem to remember Space X & Tesla entrepreneur Elon Musk plans to retire on Mars if I'm not mistaken. Or will Jeff Bezos or Sir Richard Branson beat him to it?
