Bill C-45 (legalizing pot) in Canada has just passed second reading in the Senate. So experts are saying pot will be legal by September.  There are different distribution methods depending on the Province; some are allowing private stores, some are run by the government.  The biggest challenge is going to be the price point and can the government compete with the black market.

I'd rather go up against some driver stoned out of his mind going 25 miles per hour opposed to some drunk going 90 and seeing double. Just sayen

Personally I feel you can do whatever the hell makes you happy. I only have a problem when you become a danger to other people's health.
I enjoy drinking poison on a regular basis. And I do it in a way that doesn't harm anyone else . Unlike the marijuana cultists I don't have any delusions about magical health benefits.

dm2754 "Unlike the marijuana cultists I don't have any delusions about magical health benefits." are you unaware of how marijuana can stop chronic seizures in people of all ages, including infants? people who have severe epilepsy and suffered from chronic seizures their whole life, multiple seizures a day every day, have been able to go for hundreds of days with out a single seizure because of cannabis oil. all you have to do is type seizures and marijuana into google and you can do the research yourself.

It shouldn't be legal, too many minds and lives get messed up on it. just decriminalize it.

Quite frankly, I don't give a shit one way or another.  Personally I think smoking it is stupid. (Just as I think being an LSU fan is stupid.  Which is why I'll ever do either...but some people will, their choice.)

Making it legal will not stop it from being an employment blocker if it shows up in your piss.

Keeping it illegal is not going to keep people from smoking it.

dealers want the weed to stay illegal, more money in it for them...if governbents legalised and set a reasonable price 90% of dealers wouldn't bother with selling it anymore because they would have to undercut gov prices and lose out on massive profits

So if Portugal has done it and proved it works (plus a few other places  with some success) why the fuck cant other governments do the same thing? I don't get why dumb governments cling to old stupid policy which doesn't work, when there are huge nationwide test cases to say decriminalisation has a positive effect.
They would save so much money in policing this shit, court costs, imprisoning people, and probably make a ton of money regulating and taxing everything.
argggggggggg. makes me furious.

emmettyville One reason, politics. I reckon most politicians fear the backlash which would likely see them ousted from power by the anti drug brigade. There is no logical reason not to legalise it, especially when alcohol and tobacco are far more harmful.

emmettyville   The people who want it illegal will tell you that crime
shot up through the roof when it was legalized.   I know it's not true
and you know it's not true, but tell that to those Mother's Against {Insert Name} that.
They don't want facts.

emmettyville You are ignoring the money aspect (at least in the US).

Big Pharma pays legislators TONS of money to keep marijuana as illegal as possible.  They do not want you to medicate with Weed, they want to sell you opiates and adderal.
If weed is legalized, they stand to lose a fortune.

First let me start by saying that I don't smoke.  Anything.  I am amazed that anyone can think that they can say to someone else, "see that plant over there?  You are not allowed to go and pick it, dry it, stick it in your face and light it on fire"  How can anyone possibly think they can say that and have the authority to enforce it?
