A Few Interesting Figures About Investigations, The Clintons, And Trump

Submitted by: skeeter01 2 months ago in News & Politics

To be fair, saying there were zero convictions on Whitewater is misleading. There were 15 convictions related to Whitewater, but only one of them was directly involved in Clinton's political career.

The convictions were:

  • Jim Guy Tucker: Governor of Arkansas at the time, removed from office (fraud, 3 counts)
  • John Haley: attorney for Jim Guy Tucker (tax evasion)
  • William J. Marks, Sr.: Jim Guy Tucker's business partner (conspiracy)
  • Stephen Smith: former Governor Clinton aide (conspiracy to misapply funds). Bill Clinton pardoned.
  • Webster Hubbell: Clinton political supporter; U.S. Associate Attorney General; Rose Law Firm partner (embezzlement, fraud)
  • Jim McDougal: banker, Clinton political supporter: (18 felonies, varied)
  • Susan McDougal: Clinton political supporter (multiple frauds). Bill Clinton pardoned.
  • David Hale: banker, self-proclaimed Clinton political supporter: (conspiracy, fraud)
  • Neal Ainley: Perry County Bank president (embezzled bank funds for Clinton campaign)
  • Chris Wade: Whitewater real estate broker (multiple loan fraud). Bill Clinton pardoned.
  • Larry Kuca: Madison real estate agent (multiple loan fraud)
  • Robert W. Palmer: Madison appraiser (conspiracy). Bill Clinton pardoned.
  • John Latham: Madison Bank CEO (bank fraud)
  • Eugene Fitzhugh: Whitewater defendant (multiple bribery)
  • Charles Matthews: Whitewater defendant (bribery)

There's no doubt that Whitewater was shady.  But even so, it's nothing compared to what we're seeing from today's White House.

However, I agree that Trump's direct involvement remains unproven (despite the mounting evidence suggesting otherwise.) As such, it is appropriate that his supporters remain loyal and defend him where they can. However, collusion with a hostile foreign power to secure an elected position in exchange for favorable treatment once elected is akin to treason. If it is proven that he was directly involved, would it be reasonable to think his supporters will not overlook this fact?

Huh... after reading these comments and looking at my history of posts, I’m concerned  I’ve become the liberal equivalent of 5cats.  I mean no offense, really.  I’ve been visiting this site regularly since 2007, and for many years rarely commented, much less posted anything.  Perhaps I should go back to lurking.

A thought: It's probably best to avoid making comments regarding the recently-banned IABer, in my opinion. First, because that person isn't here to defend himself. Second, because doing so is essentailly a siren-song calling to him to respond via a sockpuppet account. Regarding the latter, I have deleted probably at least a dozen such comments in this thread in the past 12 hours.

In other words, comments like the ones here, well-meaning or otherwise, are probably going to make the job of moderating more difficult than it already is. Sorry to be a pest, but please give what I'm saying some thought. Thanks.

squrlz4ever There were a number of nonsensical comments by a person claiming to be a former member, but the writing style seemed different. More terse, with less content.
Was it just the result of haste, or a copycat?

skeeter01 you're way less a problem than 5Cats.

Not speaking at you, but about politics and religion in general, you'll never convince everyone on every topic. All you can do is give facts, logic, opinion and humour and clarify your statements if needed.

One solid statement will be more effective than a flamr war. Neither passion, nor a rock solid faith will achieve any more than dilute your message.

Troll wars can be fun, but they are more about narcissism than persuasion and they give the weaker counterargument more voice.

"For the love of god, enough with the political bullshit. This is a HUMOR site!"

For those of you who haven't read the mission statement, here it is:

"The best in arts & entertainment, news, pop culture, and your mom
since 2002."

If you would like to post something entertaining, newsy or cultural about your mom, or pop, this would be the place.

semichisam01 It says "the best" so that means the whole statement is false. Nothing about this site is "the best." LOL

Oh, and did you really just make a "your mom" joke? Seriously? What is this 1993?

No. 2002.

One correction: it was a mom and pop joke.

All this shows is the justice system is totally corrupted.  Hillary should be in jail right now for multiple felonies.  Trump, at most, did a few misdemeanor crimes.

todd_dirks *squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak* ~And with great ceremony, Squrlz pulls forth the IAB Welcome Wagon in honor of the community's newest member~

Welcome to IAB, Todd! It's always nice to see someone new come onboard, especially when they already have a nice avatar image in place. You'd be surprised how many longtime members still haven't uploaded one *Ah-choo!* Marsii *Ah-choo!* Excuse me... allergy season, you know.

Anyway, I hope you have a lot of fun and make some new friends among the local fauna. You'll find we have humans with opposable thumbs, squirrels with non-opposable thumbs, one otter, a beaver, and at least one alien.

Again, Welcome to IAB and I'll see you in the threads!

Republican logic: Colluding with an enemy nation "misdemeanor" BUT using work email for private use "felony"

This is why the country is all fucked up, Tribalism is all that remains.

someguy01 Submit enough funny content to overwhelm the flame bait.  Then other bored people will see lots of funny stuff and submit there own.  Right now the bulk of submissions come from a core of people who apparently enjoy arguing over troll bait.

someguy01 Good luck with that.  I have been a lurker here for ever.  I rarely posted because this site used to have funny links, games, etc.  Now it is as you see it.  I have tried posting non-political posts and have only had one put up.   Most of my attempted post have disappeared from the "Drafts".

ps - i-a-b recently established moderators.  Guess their party affiliation.
