People Who Hated The Ghostbusters Reboot Will Loathe Oceans 8

Submitted by: littlemissqt 6 months ago in Entertainment

Lots of "Oops, I'm a girl, how do you do that?" dialogue and forced scenes from a franchise that's clearly running on fumes, and a beaten theme.

The good news: At least Melissa McCartney isn't in Oceans 8.

rumham I had similar thoughts - and I really enjoyed 2049.  I guess my question is, could they have done a female heist movie without banking on the "Ocean" name?  That's a question I have for a feminist interpretation of the film.  Is this empowering, or is it patronizing?

Ghostbusters reboot did poorly because it was shit, not because it was an all-female lead despite what SJWs squeal about.  If this is like the other Oceans it should be decent.

So, Hollywood is corning the market on movies that no man will ever go see?  Sounds like a smart marketing move!

spanz Well, they have only made thousands of movies that women don't want to see, it's probably about time.

However, if i must get dragged to a chick flick, i would rather see this than some Notebook/Titanic/Anything with Richard Gere type movie.

I hated the Ghostbusters remake, but truth told I never thought the first one's were all that great.  Melissa McCartney can run so hot and cold hated her TV show have liked some of her movies. As far as this Oceans movie is with this star power it has the potential to be great. Saw previews already not impressed though. Kind of looked like it was leaning to heavy on the fact that they were all women and not a good plot. I liked the first Oceans movies. (the first with Sinatra and the first remake) the second two seamed a little forced though.
Honestly have never seen any of them in a theater, and won't this one, I will wait for it to come to redbox or TV.

Next, they'll make ocean's 21, when the series finally breaks the sex barrier and introduces an inter-sex team with, gasp, both males and females!
Because what the movie industry teaches us is that men and women can't possibly work together.

boredhuman If you have both male and female leads, the males have to be represented as complete idiots to the females' off-the-charts-genius.

Oh is tha so? Sounds like someone bought into the bullshit.

The reason why the new Ghostbusters sucks is because it sucks.

Ocean 8 looks great because it looks like it's a well-written story.

People didn't hate the 2016 Ghostbusters because it was a 'female remake of the original', but because it sucked as a movie.

This one still has a chance to be a good movie.

This may be sacrilege to some, but I've never cared much about Danny Ocean or his crew.  So, this sequel doesn't bother me in the slightest.
