The internet was supposed to bring people together.  It was supposed to be a learning tool.  It was supposed to transcend culture and promote understanding.  What it has actually done is allow people to wallow in pools of confirmation bias and reduced people's interest in challenging their own preconceptions.  Search engines answer the questions we ask , they do not offer reasoned balanced arguments.  You used to have to read a book and absorb the whole story.  Now you can just ask what happened without any of the background or context.

punko Very true.  Based on my browser history if the Internet gave me what I needed it would probably be therapy.

I've noticed these traits among many people I've discussed with on-line, for example in anti-theists, or people who insist that the facts of 9/11 are a lie and prefer the blanket opinion of group dynamics pushed on them by their national broadcasters.

While i used to think something like this quote was right, over many years I've found that this quote is wrong.  There is a defense against stupidity, and it is by drawing close to God for the wisdom, knowledge, and patience to take them on.

monkwarrior, “I've noticed these traits among many people I've discussed with on-line, for example... people who insist that the facts of 9/11 are a lie and prefer the blanket opinion of group dynamics...”

I finally agree with you. Truthers are stupid.

monkwarrior Talk about projecting. You’re the one who only provides links to conspiracy groups as your “proof” and ignores individual experts when their facts don’t fit your narrow conclusion. Conspiracy theorists create a conclusion then pick and choose facts that gets them there, ignore the ones that don’t, and even make up a few “facts” along the way. It’s the exact opposite of how an investigation should be done.

markust123 i provided a link to a documentary hosted by PBS.  In case you forgot PBS has neutral fact reporting, and look what PBS has on 9/11, yep explosive evidence. But oh, it's a 'conspiracy theory' to you, because it goes against what your tv spoon fed you to believe?  There is no 'conclusion', but the facts point to the 'official report' being a fabrication, and the need for a re-investigation.

monkwarrior Well, at least you are finally saying the Truther video is hosted on PBS and not a “PBS documentary” like you deceptively did the last five times. What’s hilarious is after I called you out for projecting, you proved my point by linking to a video made by people who all believe in the conspiracy theory. These groups twist and mold their “facts” to get to their pre-conceived conclusion. Why you trust groups like that I will never know.

Conspiracy Theorists: Bombs brought down the buildings. Let’s find everything that brings us to our conclusion.

Official Investigators: They don't start with a conclusion. Their investigation includes the planes, who flew them, the money trail, the impacts, and what could have caused the buildings to fall.

markust123 The 'official investigators' blatantly ignored the overwhelming evidence of explosives, including video evidence indicating it, first responder eyewitness reports of it.  Their 'official report' has been found to be a fabrication already to the point where 'official investigators' had to backtrack.

The evidence points to explosives, and you can ignore that as much as you want, but the fact remains explosive evidence was discovered, and ignored by the 'official report', in fact denied by the 'official investigators', throwing both their credibility and report into doubt.

monkwarrior Yeah, I’m going to stop here. I don’t want to get into your conspiracy theory. I was talking about how the facts are looked into on each side. As usual you are deflecting.

Male 12,222
markust123 you mean you don't want to get into the facts.  I've looked into both sides, the 'official report' is a fabrication in face of the basic laws of physics.

The problem is stupid to one person is insight to another.
This Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a pastor presumably he believed in God
but to me supernatural beliefs are stupid.

Gerry1of1 The word 'stupid' is used by Bonhoeffer to mean low IQ. IQ is intended to measure one's ability to understand complexity and process nuance. I think you probably feel that supernatural beliefs are foolish, rather than stupid. (I'm open to correction on that.) It is not foolish for a low IQ person to believe an impossible thing, if the concepts involved are complex and/or nuanced. It is foolish for a person to believe an impossible thing if that person has the ability to understand that it is impossible, but wants to believe it anyway.
History is replete with examples of intelligent people who bet the farm on a belief that any child could see through.

Put down your chainsaw and listen to me
It's time for us to join in the fight
It's time to let your babies grow up to be cowboys
It's time to let the bedbugs bite
You better put all your eggs in one basket
You better count your chickens before they hatch
You better sell some wine before it's time
You better find yourself an itch to scratch
You better squeeze all the Charmin
you can while Mr. Wimpole's not around
Stick your head in the microwave and get yourself a tan
Talk with your mouth full
Bite the hand that feeds you
Bite on more than you chew
What can you do
Dare to be stupid
Take some wooden nickles
Look for Mr. Goodbar
Get your mojo working now
I'll show you how
You can dare to be stupid
You can turn the other cheek
You can just give up the ship
You can…

Which is Trump: Evil or Stupid?

Draculya trump is a manchild. And a spoiled brat without true compassion. I think, for example, that he may have been honestly saddened by the recent photos from Syria, but his reaction is contained by the fringe he wants to appeal to, so his sentiments won't translate into effective action. But, same end result from Obama's red line, without the constraints. But I digress.

doiknowyou clinton and obama are evil?  Please tell me, what evils did they commit that comes close to the evils of trump, and the administration of bush 2?

Trump built his business using the labor of small businesses, then refused to pay them.  When sued, he used his greater financial resources to keep the lawsuits going until the small businesses folded.  And when that strategy didn’t work, and he lost enough lawsuits, he simply declared bankruptcy, so he wouldn’t have to pay.

Bush 2’s administration (though I don’t believe that bush himself did this) started wars in the Middle East under false pretenses that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians.

These are examples of evil.

So again, what did Clinton and obama do?

skeeter01 Let's see; Obama: 1) Droned thousands of innocents people 2) Prosecuted more whistleblowers than any other US president 3) illegally attacked a sovereign nation (Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Syria) while militarily occupying others (Iraq, Afghanistan) 4) deported more illegal immigrants than any other US president 5) bailed out Wall Street while normal Americans were losing their homes and jobs.

That was just what I came up with off the top of my head, and each one of those could be considered evil. I'm sure a deeper dive would reveal several others.

Obama is not the good guy centrists make him out to be.

Draculya I think he has not sufficient depth for true evil or even to comprehend that a moral dimension exists.  Stupid ? He has a low cunning which served him well as a shyster businessman but is glaringly inadequate now.
