Hollywood Is Serving You Another "Lost In Space" Reboot

Netflix attempts a darker style reboot, a la Battlestar Galactica. What do you think from the trailer: hit or shit?

I binged through episode 6 and I have to say not bad. I think with remakes we tend to weigh too many things against the original. The original was Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea in space. The original Dr. Smith made the show. Gary Oldman in the movie did also. I’ll reserve judgement on Parker Posey until I watch them all. I like the robot. It’s an expanded show with different storylines but so far so good. The effects are well done for the budget.

I've watched most of the first season and it's good. Not the best, but still very worthy of the time you'd spend on it.

Meh.  It's okay.  Watched two episodes.  Special effects are great, but the acting is meh.  It tries too hard imo.  There are a few politically correct overtones that seem to drown out the premise: token black kid and "leader" mom who comes off more as an entitled, whiny bitch than a strong main character.  Plus the plots are weak where you'll want the main characters to die rather than survive their stupidity.

rumham For Sci-fi?  Yeah, some of the series are pretty weak.  There are a few I still have to check out to make a judgement for like Dark and Altered Carbon.  But there have been a large number where I couldn't even make it past the pilot.

emmettyville Good call on Altered Carbon.  I was hesitant on watching it as I wanted to read the books prior and was hesitant that it might be somewhat hokey for production value.  But now I'm already into the fifth episode with binge watching.  It has a Bladerunner feel to it.

I'll check out OA also, I see they have on Canadian Netflix now.

emmettyville  im not saying some of the content is not good. But HBO style programs aren't Hollywood, British film isn't Hollywood, Bollywood, Indie etc.

jayme21 maybe that's why people like Netflix, cause most of the stuff that does come out of Hollywood is bullshit. I LOVE the British content and the foreign content on Netflix.

rumham The Expanse is severely underrated.  Easily one of the best sci-fi shows in a while.  I'll wait and binge when they finish up the season.  The books are on the to-do list.

Beaverfever the books for me are the best thing character wise since kings dark tower. or the first 3 books in the fire and ice "game of thrones" series

rumham Nice.  I have seven of James S. A. Corey's books on my e-reader and have been waiting for a lull in work/school to get into them consecutively.  Just finishing off The Gunslinger, Red Sparrow, and Dune in the meantime.

rumham yeah I found it when I read a 'if you liked X then youll like x article' it was slated as better than firefly, disagree but expanse was only show I agreed was good out the list.

Annoyingly in UK I have to either go through hassle of finding a decent stream or waiting until Autumn :/

The robot is a creepy alien instead of a loveable Earth-made robot, one of the Robinson kids is black (token much?) and Dr Smith is a competent woman scientist instead of a lazy, cowardly man that prefered to be around the young boy a little too much.  It's going to be shit to the people that are familiar with the original.

Well this is some old news.
We have a robot that looks like crap. We now have the token black character. ( it doesn't matter what her backstory is he still a token)
I'm sure they're going to hop on some sort of social justice high horse.

daegog Uncannily like Vancouver with the same vegetation where the last Star Trek crew landed (among others).
I used to build movie props and I really like those space suits they have; well done.  A Halo movie was done here as well a few years back and they were done on the cheap.  They used these grey rubber knee pads from Home Depot as shoulder pads on the suits.  Ruined it for me every time.  Then again, "Alien" suits used cricket pads on arms and legs which I think still look cool and have that Moebius feel to them.
