This show-and-tell of an old board game brings to life a surprising amount of history.

My 3 brothers and I played Monopoly a lot.... never finished a game though.
Always ended up in a 4 way fight. Boys will be boys

Gerry1of1 Yeah, Monopoly is a tricky game. Personalities tend to really come out, for better or worse.

Here we go with another Squrlz story.

I was once dating a young woman who had an older sister, who also had a steady at the time. The four of us (plus the girls' parents, making it a party of six) were on a sailboat over Memorial Day weekend, sailing the Chesapeake Bay. The first evening, the older sister pulled out a Monopoly set. Both the older sister and her boyfriend were young attorneys. The sister was tolerable; her boyfriend, however, exemplified all the worst traits you'd associate with a lawyer: arrogant, aggressive, and loud-mouthed. He fancied himself an expert in business as well as law.

So it's about 30 minutes into the Monopoly game, and I'm doing well. While I'm sure I would suck at real-life real estate investing (I lack the requisite hustle and chutzpah), for whatever reason, I've always been good at Monopoly. I particularly like making deals with other players and the bank (an underappreciated aspect of the game). The sister's boyfriend is doing poorly and all his early boasting has begun to dry up like a Texas creek in June. With each bad roll, he's grown more and more sullen until he's now sitting at the board like Grumpy Cat.

There's some whispering between him and the sister, and then they excuse themselves and leave the table, ostensibly so the sister can show her boyfriend how to operate the hand-pumped head.

I look at my girlfriend. "Did I do something wrong?"
"No, I don't think so...."
"I mean, the goal is to win at the game, right?"
"Yeah... don't worry about it. I'm sure Gary's fine."

The couple return to the table five minutes later and as she begins talking, the sister is already collecting up the Monopoly money. "Soooooo, Gary and I are going to do some reading. He isn't feeling all that well. Hope you don't mind."

Boom. Game over. As you can imagine, it was a very long weekend. Being cooped up on a sailboat with someone you don't get along with is not a lot of fun.

That spinner would piss me off to no end.  Interesting video though.

Beaverfever Yeah, that spinner looks pretty bad. I'd have borrowed dice from some other game or even made my own with some small cubes of wood.

Very cool video.  I actually never knew about the POW editions, that some great knowledge.  The custom board is quite a find!  However, it's still Monopoly...
