NFL Prospect Derrius Guice Says Team At Combine Asked Him If He's Gay, And If His Mom's A Prostitute

The NFL Scouting Combine—where college football’s hottest prospects are put through their paces in front of pro talent spotters—is well known for its tests of physical endurance, but Louisiana State running back Derrius Guice has lifted the lid on some of the questionable mental tests he was put through—including being grilled on his sexuality and on whether his mom was a prostitute.

“It was pretty crazy,” Guice said in an interview on SiriusXM radio aired late Wednesday. “Some people are really trying to get in your head and test your reaction.... I go in one room, and a team will ask me do I like men, just to see my reaction. I go in another room, they’ll try to bring up one of my family members or something and tell me, ‘Hey, I heard your mom sells herself.’” Two years ago, the NFL opened an investigation after an Atlanta Falcons coach asked Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple if he was gay during the Combine. The Falcons later apologized.

It has been my experience the only people who ask those sort of questions want to see what options are available for them

Thing is, Guice is known to be an "angry" player.

I think they might have been testing to see his reactions to insults.  You can't make late hits or give your team penalties because the other team said you were gay or your mom was is a ho.

If he can't take that, he'd better not join IAB.

Draculya good point.  All NFL draft prospects need to survive the “IAB comments section challenge”

They will have to submit a post on global warming or Trump and then weather the personal attacks.

I'm torn. On one hand I don't like it, but on the other the coaches really need to know how the players are going to react to the opposing fan's taunting's. I'm a Seahawks season ticket holder. One year we had cards at our seats that said, Report knuckleheads. We were all like, I think they meant to put these in the baseball stadium next door. Football is a rowdy male dominated sport. If you can't handle the crowd that's your problem. Of course that's to a point. There are people that deserve to be dragged out of the stadium. And they are.

markust123 I thought they might be trying to weed out another Michael Sam situation. Who know though, it seems like they felt justified in asking the question.

Definitely sounds like head games.  At the big league level for any sport, if you can be phased by words to get to your emotions, you can quickly be defeated.

Unfortunately calling a man gay or pulling yo mama's so fat insults never gets old to some people.

Yay Sports Ball!!!

Nothing new, they've been doing this kind of stuff for quite a while. I would think the top recruits or someone in their camp would be expecting it.
