Who Here Has Enjoyed "Downtown No Gaki No Tsukai Ya Arahende!!"?

Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! is a Japanese variety show that started in 1989 and is still going today. The most well-known episodes are the Batsu Games (Punishment Games) One batsu game that took place over the period of 24 hours where the cast, except one, are locked in a gymnasium, playing "tag" with Japanese Oni ("demons," who were men dressed in gimp suits) who were "summoned" to attack at random moments, each with a specific type of punishment written on the suit to be inflicted whenever the victims were tagged.

It's a LONG watch, but it is SO worth it, I promise. Some of the filler, interviews and such are okay... the gym is the focus imho.

There's no way in hell this would EVER fly in the US.  The lawsuits would be insane.

I've watched about 20 minutes of the gymnasium tag challenge so far and it's good stuff. Part of the appeal is, like the men in the challenge, you're waiting for the next gimp to suddenly appear and wondering what kind of punishment will be inflicted. Will be watching more. Thanks, Mel!

This is so great!  Thanks for sharing!  I lived in Japan for 14 years and watched this show quite a bit. I miss living there so much.

rodmeister New job back in the States.  Plus it was nice to be closer to family. Being an expat definitely had its advantages, but I’ve enjoyed being back in the U.S.
