Trump's Education Department Will Reject Transgender Students' Bathroom Complaints

Submitted by: littlemissqt 3 months ago in News & Politics

Lila Perry, a transgender student at Hillsboro High School in Missouri, talked to reporters after some students protested her use of the girls’ bathrooms and locker room. (NYT)

The US Department of Education told BuzzFeed News this morning that it will no longer investigate complaints from transgender students who are barred from bathrooms that match their identified gender.

This is the first time the Trump administration has made a clear stance on the issue after it withdrew Obama-era guidance on the issue in early 2017. In an email, education spokesperson Liz Hill said that “Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, not gender identity.”

She clarified that while the department would continue to hear complaints from transgender students, complaints about bathrooms would no longer be considered. “In the case of bathrooms, however, long standing regulations provide that separating facilities on the basis of sex is not a form of discrimination prohibited by Title IX,” Hill said.

"I identify as" is not a viable classification for legislation or policy.

Good.  Mentally ill twisted weirdos should not be catered to.  Idgaf what you "identify" as, if your genitals and reproductive system say you're a man, stay the f*ck out of the ladies room.

If people have to undress or expose themselves in an area then they should have the same genitals. Otherwise do what you want.

Just a thought...if the fed govt wasn't involved in education at any level there wouldn't be a "Trump's Education Department" to complain about.  And don't come back with any kind of we need a fed ed department nonsense.  If there was ever an issue that should be handled at the local level its education.  Prior to the 70's, if you wanted to fuck up every school in the country you actually had to visit every school in the country.  Now all you need to do is send some lawyers to DC.

Lila Perry, a transgender student at Hillsboro High School in Missouri, talked to reporters after some students protested *his* use of the girls’ bathrooms and locker room.

I'm still on the fence regarding letting these folks use whatever bathroom, but I still believe that person is a male. That does not mean I think it is a bad idea to let *him* use the girl's bathroom. I'm, still pondering....

chicagojay Showers too... don't forget that! In public places as well as schools. And school field trips: GWP sharing tents, cabins and rooms with GWV... what could possibly go wrong?
There's already been court cases about it: a naked man sitting in the women's showers for nearly an hour... the Judge said it was OK! :-/ It was on IAB before.

If you want to pretend you're a girl could knock yourself out but don't expect the rest of us to play along.
And I still feel we need to go out of their way to accommodate everyone.

Good! About time some common sense took place in American schools.

What is it you want? 5 separate restrooms for the assorted Gender in every school? Remember there has to be an equal number of each: not 3 for boys, 3 for girls and 1 for the other 3 genders, nope! 3 for each! 15 restrooms in that case. And 5 separate locker rooms too...

And also: these people don't want separate restrooms: they want to use the GIRLS restroom, or showers, even though they have a penis. Or vice-versa.

Finally...

5cats People who are still having this debate confuse me, what is it that you think is "common sense"? Having someone who looks this on the right in the woman's bathroom?

Male 42,934
mischeif954 That is EXACTLY what they are demanding: someone who looks and is dressed as the person on the RIGHT being free to enter ANY "women's" change rooms, rest rooms, showers, anywhere!
I kid you not.
Can';t you tell she's awoman inside? The one on the right I mean... she's a Girl With a Penis! (GWP)

dm2754 mischeif954 that's what I do, women can be alot  more tense and judging with someone trans in their bathroom, nothing funnier than a guy coming into the men's room to see me standing at the urinals.

layla_wilson LOL! I was at a concert and a group of women burst into the men's room and simply said "We can't wait! the women's line is too long!" Nobody cared that that they were there, nobody cared that they cut to the front of the line.

Draculya I look more feminine than the average Brit, so your attempt at being a bellend has kinda backfired on you there. The amount of males and females that have thought I'm a genuine female is staggering (I always make sure to correct them)

5cats    Do you have separate litter boxes based on genders?  Neutered and Spayed need separate litter boxes according to your rant.     How about a unisex litter box?   Is that so complicated?

Gerry1of1 Um, no? Are you supporting my argument? Thanks!

The feminists fought hard to have separate restrooms for men and women become the universal normal. Others fought hard to end segregation based on race.

Perhaps someday the majority will support every school having 3 restrooms for each of the 5 (or 7. or 9) orientations? As well as locker rooms and showers for them too... even if that school has NO students of that orientation, ok? Someday... but not today.

5cats It's pretty straight forward and takes almost zero thought to have a unisex bathroom. Feel free to blather on about your bigotry though.

devthep The women's movement fought hard to have separate restrooms for men and women. Please do some reading on that, ok?

Meanwhile? The LGBTQ community REJECTS the idea of 'unisex' and DEMANDS that GWP use the girls' showers and BWV use the boys' showers... & etc.
They even reject having a separate restroom for "transpersons" too! This has been posted on IAB before.

Do so thinking and research before throwing shit around, it just stick to you and makes you stink.

megrendel I think the unisex bathrooms is the single restroom solution most of us have in our homes, everybody goes to the same restroom.

mischeif954 And locker rooms? And showers? And change rooms?
And since the LGBT community REJECTS the very idea of "unisex rooms" for schools, how will you please them?

mischeif954 Sure, just line up 50 individual closet-sized restrooms one hall.

Now, try to be the teacher that has to monitor those 50 individual closet-sized restrooms.

The current set up was designed to meet a need.  A need where girls go 'here' and guys go 'here'.

It wasn't until this current mass-mental illness that it became an issue.

I got an even better idea: Restrooms are no longer assigned based on gender. But on sex.  XX in this room, XY in that room.  For that minuscule amount that is neither...pick one.  (note: "Identifying" as anything other than what you are is bullshit.)

megrendel I thought it was more like a girls restroom, but boys go there too, no urinals just stalls. You go use the restroom wash your hands, groom yourself and then leave, no more or less supervision than before. They could always remove the front wall and place a camera directly outside like that other school if monitoring is an issue(j/k).

Idk I always managed to go to the restroom and not focus on anything but the wall in front of me, wash my hands an leave. I was able to block out the guy having a loud phone conversation, or the other guy being exorcised in the surrounding stalls, a circus clown could be next time me at a urinal and I wouldn't know, not trying to oversimplify it I just don't remember it being so complicated. Pee and go.

mischeif954 Lolz to quote the song: Don't you know that it's different for girls? :-)

Girls don't want boys in their restrooms OR the showers, I can assure you. They want a safe place to pee (or shower!) without men around, is that too much to ask for? :-/

There are already a host of "men dressed as women lurking in women's restrooms and sexually assaulting women and girls or taking pictures" across America.

Make it "any man GWP no matter what he's Xe's wearing" and it's literally "open season" ok?

5cats Don't think you or I get to assure each other of what girls want, not sure that's how it works. I don't know about any hosts of anything, but if someone is looking to go commit assault in restrooms a gender sign is not a forcefield, there's also same-sex assaults. What are the circumstances of these assaults? If it's someone being alone in the restroom with the perpetrator(s) how can a sign prevent that? If anything more people in the restroom may leave everyone less vulnerable to dangerous individuals.

mischeif954 Because these men (dressed as women) would LOITER in the restroom for hours until suitable prey came along. And no one could do or say anything since it's their 'right' to be there even though they were obviously males. (One had a moustache and scruffy beard) It is something bad people will exploit, the good people really don't need some law to tell them where to potty.

Not much can stop same-sex assaults. There was one woman convicted of taking pictures under the stall walls of other women and girls doing their business...

There are so few of these transpersons that no, it won't actually increase the number of good people in a restroom, it is likely any given restroom would see 1 trans person a week or less... just a guess.

5cats "If anything more people in the restroom may leave everyone less vulnerable to dangerous individuals."

Correct me if I'm wrong the replies seem jumbled, but I think you replied to my comment about unisex restrooms where EVERYONE uses the same restroom, that would reduce the chances of being in the restroom alone with a perp, that has nothing to do with amount of trans in population. Isn't it already prohibited to loiter in the bathroom, I'd imagine if this wasn't the case people would be sleeping in restrooms not out in the streets?

mischeif954 Ooo, I missed the part about unisex restrooms, I thought you meant "more people in women's rooms" eh?

But no, unisex rooms (and showers? them too remember) would just be places for predators to lurk until an appropriate victim came along. No sane woman would go into a public restroom in an isolated area... that is the very reason why separated restrooms were invented! That and men peeing on the toilet seats...

Who would know if they were loitering? You go in, someone's in stall #3, you leave and he/she is still there, you can't call security over that. You'd need patrols in there to keep track... or a check-in system.... or security cameras... all bad ideas! Lolz!

devthep Not one, it has to be an equal number to the Boys and Girls. Where will this bathroom, and locker room, possibly plural, go? How much will it cost and who will pay for it?
And for some? Separate restrooms is NOT a solution: that's discrimination they say! They want GWP to use the Girls rooms and BWV to use the Boys rooms (and showers too).
There was already court cases about this sort of thing.

OR you could just do what has worked perfectly for decades: Boys use the Boys' facilities and Girls used the Girls' facilities. Simple really.
