You think YOU hate the current president? The opinions of the other 7 billion people we share a planet with are even worse.

John Oliver is great. It's what, 20 plus minutes of a pretty intense monologue and he doesn't skip a beat. Plus he's funny as hell.

I've been to Salvador, I've been to Haiti, I've been to several African nations - They ARE shitholes.
But then, America is fast becoming a shithole, so ya know, pot and kettle?

captkangaroo Youre getting it all wrong. Those countries are shitholes. Problem is that Trump took it One step further by saying he wanted people from Norway instead.

Those countries might be shitholes, but their people arent. Theyre victims of circumstance. Nothing more. Theyre no less deserving of an opportunity to immigrate than people from Norway.

Thats why theres a racial aspect to President shitheads comments, in my opinion.

I didn't say anything about president Trump - who is an asshole, a liar, a crook and a traitor - and he is not the first person to have made the observation that those places suck.
Nor did I say anything racist or about racism.
Focus please, do try to stay on topic.

captkangaroo I think you're this may be a case of miscommunication. I was simply building on what you were saying about the term shithole and the context under which the president used the term.

captkangaroo They're poor. They were born into poverty in a country with little to no financial opportunity, education, or prospects. Their lives are difficult enough. They don't need some billionaire silver spoon asshole in charge of the richest country on Earth denigrating them further.

Whether it is true or not is not the point. You don't go to the Special Olympics and call people retards.

Didn't say it while there, I've said it here.
I was born into a culture of poverty, people unwilling to work,  people daily taking drugs, sex parties, no formal education for children - and more. Much more.
I made a choice. I chose differently than my peers.
I find it exceedingly difficult to empathize with people who knuckle under - no matter their number.
What is the very first, basic and universal thing that humans realize? It's 'I want'. Then we figure out what we want. Pretty easy stuff, that, and I do agree the hard part is obtaining what we want.  But ya look at so many, who have wanted for so long and have made no progress. With all their numbers.
Maybe there's a valid reason where they live is a shithole.

holygod In Trump's defense (Damn, I hate saying that!), it was, as I recall, said in a closed meeting. It was still inappropriate, of course, but I think it was significantly more inappropriate for those who did so to have made it public.
